[personal profile] underused
precocious

(of a child) having developed certain abilities or inclinations at an earlier age than is usual or expected; (of behaviour or ability) having developed at an earlier age than is usual or expected

Strictly by definition, this word has positive connotations. A child who is precocious is clever--if not a prodigy, then certainly talented. But I find when I use the word precocious, I'm usually describing behaviour I find a bit obnoxious.

When you hear the word "precocious" is your impression positive or negative?
