antidisestablishmentarianism
opposition to the disestablishment of the Church of England (the Anglican Church)
Random House has a slightly more illuminating definition: opposition to the withdrawal of state support or recognition from an established church.
In modern use (not that anyone uses it) antidesestablishmentarianism is the opposition to the belief a country should not have an official church. In other words, antidisestablishmentarianists are (at least somewhat) okay with a union of church and state.
I have only ever known this word as an example of a really long word. I thought it was time to find out what it meant.
Next time we'll talk about pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis and its effect on the population of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.
